FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: John Avery Don't Get Weighed Down By Holiday Bingeing It’s hard to believe that a year has nearly past and the holidays are now on top of us. Since the holidays are close at hand, Steviva Brands president Thom King is here to offer you some sound advice that may make a difference. Here are a few tips to get you through the holidays without being burdened with seasonal weight gain and disappointment that follows: How to Avoid the Gift of Holiday Weight Gain. 1. Do not try to lose weight during the holidays. Simply maintaining will be a huge accomplishment. 2. Expect the holidays to be a challenge. The Holidays are filled with potential pitfalls that will erode your discipline. Sometimes this will put pressure on you. Prepare for it and you will prevail. 3. Get support for eating properly. Find a support partner and speak with them daily. This really makes a difference. If you resist this suggestion, then you will probably gain Holiday weight. Weight loss is best done with the help of a support system, particularly during a stressful time. If you attempt to go it alone you will definitely increase your chances of failure. So get a buddy! 4. Be cognizant of family issues. Holidays usually mean time with family. If your family puts the fun in dysfunction you can expect unresolved family issues to emerge. This can create powerful emotions in you. You may feel the the desire to self-medicate with food to cope with these emotions but, don't this will lead to weight gain and potential self loathing. If you identify these issues prior to family gatherings, you will be better prepared to manage the feelings they generate. Almost all overeating is due to emotions. This rings true regarding holiday pig outs. Holidays bring up feelings of loneliness, family conflict, past hurts and resentments, anger and many other painful emotions. These stressors combined with the easy availably of comfort food can lead to the perfect weight gaining storm. If you know your baggage, you can make proactive decisions about how to manage it. If you simply walk into family gatherings like the wounded wildebeest into a tribe of hungry lions, you can count on a mad dash to the dessert table. Everyone carries some family baggage. You are not alone in this. A dose of self-reflection and inner honesty will go a long way towards helping you no balloon up during the coming season. 5. Let family members know that you are trying hard not to succumb to holiday weight gain and that you want their support. Ask them to resist tempting you to eat food that will throw you off and to provide you some fresh veggies and sugar free delights. It's really important to have a support mechanism. Somebody you can count on. Find a good buddy and then use them for encouragement and strength to do what needs to be done. You don’t need to handle family drama alone. We have found that the more dysfunctional the family, the more support you will need to handle them. If you choose to walk this path alone, you may quickly find that you are lost in a food vortex.
